Breakfast With Amanda - Chapter 43

Free Enterprise  -   Breakfast With Amanda – Chapter 43

Rodger was standing in front of the Pepper Pot and had obviously been on the look out for Tyr. As soon as he saw the Nietzschean Captain he waved him down, greeted, and immediately escorted him through the crowed restaurants main dining area, to the back where the private dining rooms were.

Unlike before, everything was already set up. Amanda and Tyr greeted and hugged one another. Tyr noted that she was just wearing her Class A blouse but not the jacket.

“I have a tendency to spill things on that dratted white jacket, so I don't wear it until I've finished eating.” Amanda explained as she indicated her jacket hanging on the back of a chair at another table. They both stepped up to the serving table, picked up plates and started serving themselves.

“What do you do at diplomatic dinners when you have to wear it?” Tyr asked, as they sat.

“I ask for a bib.” she said as she smiled. “Especially if I'm going to be eating things like Gagh or Heart of Targ.” she continued.

“Gagh? Heart of Targ?” Tyr asked. He'd heard they were Klingon delicacies but never actually eaten any of them.

“You've never had Gagh? They are Klingon serpent worms and they must be eaten live.” Amanda replied. She watched as Tyr halted in mid-chew and stared at her.

“Live?” Tyr asked, after he had safely swallowed.

“Yes live. No one eats dead Gagh, Tyr.” she said. If she was trying to gross Tyr out, she had come awfully close. He was just trying to picture what it would be like when she interrupted his thoughts with:

“Klingons tend to use eating live Gagh as a means of challenging one's manhood or nettle. If you can eat a bowl of it without gagging and or throwing up you will be respected by them.” Amanda said.

“Have you eaten Gagh?” Tyr asked, as he privately wondered just how did this conversation spiral out of control like this. While they were eating yet.

“Of course I have many times! Properly seasoned, Gagh tastes like chicken.” Amanda quipped, and they both had a good laugh over that.

“I noticed that Rodger seemed rather distracted this morning.” Tyr said as an afterthought.

“Alas, poor Rodger. Apparently he's set his eye on someone new.” Amanda said. “None other than Captain Charlemagne Bolivar. You can blame me for that. He'll be too busy trying to peel Rodger off to bother me. Haxhis warned me.” she continued and winked.

Tyr couldn't help but to roar with mirth. The Hugh Jackman look-alike would definitely have his hands full for the duration of the conference.

“By the way, this is for you Amanda.” Tyr said once he had regained composure. He placed the Double Helix armband on her left bicep.

“Thank You, Tyr. It's beautiful!” Amanda said as she admired the armband's handiwork. “You know no one will see it once I put my jacket on.” she continued.

“As Khan would say, The Divine sees and that's all that matters.” Tyr replied and smiled. Amanda smiled in return. Meal finished, they both rose. Tyr helped her put on her jacket.

“Let's go, Captain! We're burnin' daylight.” she said in her Admiral's tone.

As he followed her out of the crowded Pepper Pot and to the nearest lift, Tyr wondered in which famous Old Earth Western movie were those words uttered.
